Chelsea ignored the warning of one of their club’s best ever players last summer, and now it looks as if they are about to pay the price.
John Terry has been working with the academy side in recent years at Cobham, giving him a great idea of the talent that the Blues have on their books.
A number of youngsters got their chance to feature during Enzo Maresca’s first season in charge. Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong were both promoted to first team duties during the previous campaign.
One player who was not available to the new manager though was Rio Ngumoha. After being one of the more promising talents at Cobham, the winger decided he did not see a pathway to the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea youngster Rio Ngumoha scores great goal for Liverpool
Ngumoha joined Liverpool, and after a season where he mostly featured for the youth sides, he now looks far closer to being in Arne Slot’s plans.
The youngster was brought on in the 64th minute in their pre-season friendly against Yokohama F.Marinos, and found the net during his second half cameo.
The teenager picked the ball up on the halfway line before driving at pace at the opposition defence, cutting inside and finding the net.
If Ngumoha plays a part in Liverpool’s first team squad next season, Chelsea may quickly regret not keeping hold of the player, and listening to Terry on the matter.

John Terry never wanted Ngumoha to leave
It was reported Ngumoha was open to staying at Chelsea, however the Blues were too slow to come to an agreement over a new deal.
One person who was not happy when this happened was the former club captain. Terry praised Ngumoha when it was announced he would be moving to one of their top rivals.
Reports have stated that the academy are losing confidence in finding a pathway to Stamford Bridge, making the prospect of more similar situations in the future very realistic.
With signings such as Estevao Willian and Geovany Quenda coming through soon, it is clear to see why there is not much optimism from those at Cobham right now.
