Chelsea have just done something for the first time under Enzo Maresca after Ipswich defeat

Chelsea have generally been good travellers in their away games this season, but they just suffered a shock defeat at Ipswich Town in their final game of 2024.

Chelsea were beaten 2-0 away to Ipswich on Monday night, which has made it a frustrating finish to the year.

Enzo Maresca has made a really positive start as the Blues manager during his first half a season at Stamford Bridge. His side currently sits fourth in the Premier League table at the halfway point, but they may feel it should be even better after a few dodgy results over the festive period.

Maresca says Chelsea can be so much better after watching them lose away at Ipswich. It’s a result that’s left them in the thick of this season’s intriguing top-four battle.

Chelsea do something for the first time under Enzo Maresca

Unfortunately, Chelsea set an unwanted record in their Ipswich defeat. It’s the first time under Maresca that they’ve gone three consecutive league matches without a win this season.

Blues supporters have become used to seeing positive results under Maresca’s watch, but this three-game run in the league without victory is the longest of his short tenure. Therefore, it’s going to be fascinating to see the response.

Marc Cucurella insists Chelsea must stop rushing in possession when reflecting on the side’s disappointing result at Ipswich. Hopefully, they can regain their momentum at the start of 2025.

Should Chelsea fans be worried?

It’s not the time for Blues supporters to panic yet after a few bad results, largely because the inconsistency in such a young group of players is natural.

But if there’s one room for concern about the festive results, it’s that Chelsea has slipped up against teams they’d expect to beat. Ipswich and Everton are 18th and 16th, respectively, while local rivals Fulham are eighth in the Premier League table.

Chelsea can look forward to playing four league matches in January, where they must try to get back to winning ways.

For Chelsea, they’d love to keep that four-point cushion over Man City before they play them in a few weeks time. If not, this season could become a real challenge to finish in the top four.
