The future of Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is still firmly up in the air.
Thiago Silva‘s £110,000-a-week contract (Spotrac) expires at the end of the season, so he is set to leave Chelsea in the summer as things stand.
The Blues are yet to offer the centre-back a new deal, but journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that retaining him has been “internally discussed” at the club.
While Chelsea seem prepared to lose Silva, the Brazilian has actually been a key player for them this season.
In total, he has made 20 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino, missing just one game in the Premier League.

Chelsea discussing Thiago Silva’s future
Chelsea are right to at least entertain the idea of keeping Silva beyond this season. Of course, at 39, he is not a young man anymore. However, that does not mean the Brazil international is finished.
Silva is still going strong in the current campaign, being a player who Pochettino has relied on heavily.
That ability to deal with danger is never going to go away. According to WhoScored, the former Paris Saint-Germain captain is making 4.2 clearances per game, which is the highest average in Chelsea’s squad.
AC Milan forward Rafael Leao recently named Silva in his world XI, and it is not hard to see why. He is an amazing defender.
Chelsea cannot be too rash here. They already have a very young and inexperienced squad that has really struggled in the Premier League this term. The Blues currently sit 10th in the table. Would it really be wise to get rid of a veteran and leader like Silva?
If he is still performing, then no. And that is what the centre-half has been doing. All in all, Silva probably deserves at least another year at Stamford Bridge.
