After the January transfer window shut on Monday, it has not taken long for Chelsea to be linked with numerous players when it opens again at the end of the season.

Some were left underwhelmed with the business conducted by the club last month. Only Trevoh Chalobah and Mathis Amougou joined up with the first team, and it is realistic to think neither will be amongst the squad when the next campaign begins.

Chelsea scouts will be putting in the work to get an advantage on their rivals, with the next window important to show the backing they are willing to give Enzo Maresca if he is still at the club.

Chelsea interested in signing Matheus Cunha

Attacking options are going to be high on their agenda this summer, with versatility something they are keen to have across their frontline.

One player who would certainly tick off that requirement is Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian has enjoyed a very strong campaign so far despite Wolves’ Premier League struggles.

Chelsea were linked with Cunha in January after his manager berated his conduct at Stamford Bridge when the Blues beat them 3-1.

It looks as if the Blues still have that appetite to bring him in, with the Mail Online listing Chelsea as one of the sides interested in triggering his release clause in the summer.

The report goes on to say that the figure is around £62m, after he signed a new contract last month to commit his short-term future to Wolves.

Matheus Cunha helped get Mauricio Pochettino sacked

Chelsea fans will be well aware of the quality of Cunha after he helped Wolves pick up a dominant 4-1 win at Stamford Bridge last season.

The Brazilian scored a hat-trick and piled more pressure on Mauricio Pochettino, who was in charge at the time.

A sixth placed finish in the league was not enough for the Argentine to keep his job, with plenty of missed opportunities to pick up easy points and qualify for the Champions League.

One of those chances was the home game against Wolves, and it has to be thought that this was on the mind of decision makers when they sacked him.
