Chelsea’s squad is now going into its second week of pre-season.

Enzo Maresca, the new Blues head coach, met his group of players last week and got straight to work on the training pitches.

The Italian boss completely changed Leicester City into a possession-based team during just one year as their manager, which led to promotion from the Championship. Therefore, it’s going to be interesting to see what he can do at Stamford Bridge.

In a video released by Chelsea’s X account of their first training session last week, Maresca can be heard shouting instructions to his players about the detail on passes.

Chelsea player has already learned something new under Enzo Maresca

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via his Substack that Chelsea’s players are enjoying the training so far under Maresca.

He’s shared that one unnamed Blues star has been “so impressed” with Maresca and even learned something completely new about the game that he had never known about before.

In addition, some of Chelsea’s Under-21s players that have been involved with first-team training have loved it. They’re amazed by the advanced sessions, too.

Harry Winks said the same last season

Leicester’s central midfielder Harry Winks was coached by Maresca last season.

His comments back in February about the now-Chelsea manager give a brilliant insight into him.

Winks said via talkSPORT: “He’s (Maresca) incredible in every way. He’s a manager who I think will certainly go to the very top. His understanding of football is something I’ve never witnessed before.”

Maresca is right at the beginning of his journey with Chelsea, so we’ll see in time which players suit his style of football.

Speaking via Alex Goldberg’s Playback recently, Leicester’s Kasey McAteer has already predicted that Blues youngster Carney Chukwuemeka could do well next season.
