Chelsea are working hard to keep on improving on the field, but there’s currently a contract situation that continues to take up the time of officials off the field.

Enzo Maresca won’t be playing any major part in contract talks at this moment in time, as his Chelsea side are preparing for the visit of Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

The Magpies lost last time out against Brighton and Hove Albion in what was a really disappointing display, but they’ll be keen to put things right with Alexander Isak getting back up to speed.

Interestingly, Maresca may have a decision to make at full-back, with Reece James’ return against Liverpool seeing Marc Cucurella drop out, as Gusto moved to left-back.

However, the Chelsea boss’ comments about James may offer an insight into his potential thinking, with Malo Gusto potentially deputising at right-back.

Regardless, there’s a contract situation going on off the field at Stamford Bridge, and Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest update.

Chelsea have already tied down Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer to long-term deals, and now it looks as if the club are turning their attention to one of the youngsters.

Interestingly, Joshua Acheampong‘s contract is set to run out in the summer of 2026, and Chelsea are trying to get a new one sorted.

It’s been claimed that Acheampong is backing off signing the new deal due to a feeling that he won’t be given too many minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his X account, stating that the player’s family have now got involved and their proposal to the youngster remains on the table.

Josh Acheampong’s situation at Chelsea

Josh Acheampong has appeared once in the Carabao Cup for Chelsea this season.

Interestingly, it’s been claimed that Acheampong has been really frustrated with Enzo Maresca’s decision to not turn to him in the absence of Reece James.

Chelsea are now worried about losing Acheampong to either Liverpool or Real Madrid amid the standoff.

There’s no doubting he’s a huge talent and deserves every right to prove himself, but with James back and Malo Gusto also impressing, it’s very difficult for him to fit in.
