Reports have claimed that Chelsea have now rejected a second bid from Inter Milan for striker Romelu Lukaku.
According to the Mail Online, the Blues are hoping for another £14m on top of the £26m that the Italian side have recently offered for his services.
It’s fair to say that Inter have not been too fun to negotiate with for Chelsea so far over a deal which will see Lukaku finally leave the club.
Originally, for some reason, the Serie A side thought they would be able to secure yet another loan move for the Belgian. This of course would have been a huge financial benefit for them.
Unlike last year however, Todd Boehly and co have put their foot down and have made it clear that they want a substantial fee to let him return to last season’s Champions League finalists.
Chelsea reject bid for Lukaku
They are being aided too if reports are to be believed by interest from at least two other clubs in signing the 30-year-old. They stated that Inter were currently the lowest offerers of the three too.
There has been prevalent interest this summer from Saudi Arabia, a destination a number of last season’s Chelsea first team have already headed to.
He will have the opportunity to join both Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy, as well as N’golo Kante who moved over there on a free transfer.
Ultimately, it is in Chelsea’s best interests to get this saga over and done with as soon as possible, with the possibility that he returns to Stamford Bridge at any point being no more than a nuisance.
While Mauricio Pochettino was apparently willing to work with the striker, that boat has now very much sailed.
