It’s been a near-faultless first year for Cole Palmer as a Chelsea player, surpassing all expectations of him by a landslide.

The Blues signed Cole Palmer last year from Premier League rivals Manchester City. If you skip to the present day, that now looks like one of the club’s best signings in modern history.

Palmer has the most assists in Europe’s top five leagues since joining Chelsea, highlighting his importance as a creative playmaker at Stamford Bridge. On top of that, the left-footed attacker now has 26 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Palmer has been rewarded for his incredible performances in west London by being named yesterday on the shortlist for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

Cole Palmer nominated for Premier League award

Just hours after his Ballon d’Or nomination, Palmer has now been put up for another individual prize.

It’s been confirmed via the Premier League’s website that the Chelsea talisman is on the shortlist for August’s Premier League Player of the Month award.

In terms of the eventual winner, we’d be stunned if Man City’s Erling Haaland didn’t take this prize. The superstar striker scored seven goals in three league matches in August, including back-to-back hat-tricks versus Ipswich Town and West Ham.

Cole Palmer picks up where he left off

If there were any concerns that last year was a one-off season for Palmer, they’ve quickly vanished in the opening weeks of the 2024/25 campaign.

The England international sent out a real statement performance by scoring one goal and assisting three times in Chelsea’s 6-2 league victory away to Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

There’s a new man in charge with Enzo Maresca the current head coach, but it feels like the Blues still heavily rely on Palmer. In fact, even more of their play goes through him now he’s playing as the central No.10.

It’s a worry that the Chelsea star has withdrawn from the England camp during this international break with a groin injury. However, journalist Simon Phillips reports via Substack that Chelsea are optimistic Palmer will be available against Bournemouth in their next game.
