He would have been surely set for a start as soon as the opportunity finally arose for Potter to rotate some of his first team players.

The Champions League dead rubber against Dinamo Zagreb and League Cup match with Manchester City were perfect opportunities for the youngster to be handed his first start at Chelsea.

However, injury limited his ability to partake in those matches, stopping him in his tracks as he continued to make a good impression at Stamford Bridge.

Supporters will have been beginning to get excited by the prospect of the former Aston Villa man, after he was signed for a large amount of money considering his age and contract at his prior club.

There will therefore be a large amount of excitement that he has returned to the first team training camp that is occurring in Abu Dhabi.

He has been joined by Reece James, who fans will be hoping will be fit enough to start in the first game back after the World Cup break.

There is a large expectation placed upon Chukwuemeka. One of the reasons Thomas Tuchel reportedly lost his job was that he didn’t feature the teenager in more games.

While a loan move may become the best option in the coming months, he has shown when he is fit he can already be a strong and competitive member of the first team options.
