Chelsea’s chances of signing Michael Olise after Bayern Munich director makes big claim

Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has sent a message to Chelsea and all of the other clubs who are interested in signing Michael Olise.

Last week, it was reported that Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are all keen on Olise.

This is not the first time that the Blues have shown interest in the winger. Chelsea wanted Olise last summer before his move to Bayern.

Chelsea also looked at Olise in 2023, but the threat of legal action from Crystal Palace saw a deal collapse. The Eagles were allegedly unhappy with the way Chelsea approached the France international.

Chelsea have little chance of signing Michael Olise as Christoph Freund envisions nine-year stay

Chelsea’s loss has certainly proven to be Bayern’s gain, and the German club’s sporting director has no intention of allowing the Blues to rectify their mistake of not doing more to sign Olise.

Speaking to sky sport about whether Bayern could sell the 23-year-old, Freund said: “We’re not under any pressure. We can imagine him playing for Bayern for the next seven, eight, nine years. Michael has a long-term contract, he proved himself and took steps forward.”

Olise played a key role in helping Bayern to reclaim the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen last season.

In 34 league appearances, Olise scored 12 goals and provided 15 assists. It is no wonder that some of the Premier League‘s biggest clubs are interested in signing him.

Chelsea signed Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens during the summer, while Estevao Willian finally arrived from Palmeiras. But it looks like the Conference League holders would not turn down the opportunity to recruit Olise.

Estevao is currently WhoScored’s highest-rated young player in the English top flight. Chelsea fans would probably love to see both the Brazilian and Olise on the flanks at Stamford Bridge.

How Michael Olise compares to Chelsea’s current wingers

Estevao and Neto have been Chelsea’s two best wingers this season, but Olise is outshining the duo and the rest of the Blues’ wide attackers.

For example, Olise has scored more goals, provided more assists and averaged more key passes than both Estevao and Neto.

It is unlikely, but if Chelsea do go on to land Olise, he would instantly become their best wide man.
