Chelsea could be about to land one of the most deadliest finishers in Europe.

Enzo Maresca is likely to add a new centre-forward to his squad this summer, with Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap a key target for the Blues.

While Maresca is keen on signing Delap, the 22-year-old is not the only striker on Chelsea‘s radar.

In fact, it is believed that Chelsea also have another No.9 high on their list of transfer targets for the summer.

Viktor Gyokeres has outscored 11 teams in Portugal this season

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Viktor Gyokeres is also at the “top” of Chelsea’s shortlist of strikers, which will come as no surprise.

The Swede has been in devastating form once again this season, scoring 38 goals in just 30 league games for Sporting Lisbon.

It means that Gyokeres has actually netted more times than 11 different teams in the Portuguese league.

If Chelsea can land the 26-year-old this summer, that is unreal firepower that they will be adding to Maresca’s side.

Cole Palmer is Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League with just 14 goals, while Nicolas Jackson, the team’s first-choice striker, has only managed 10.

Jackson has missed some games because of injury, while there is no guarantee that Gyokeres’ goalscoring form will translate over to England. But at this point, he is certainly worth a punt.

The Sweden international scored four goals in his last outing and a hat-trick before that. He has failed to net just once in his previous nine games in the Portuguese top flight.

Arsenal are also interested in Gyokeres, so Chelsea may need to qualify for the Champions League to secure his signature when the transfer window opens.

John Obi Mikel has made big Viktor Gyokeres claim

Right now, Chelsea are battling for a spot in the top five, with Maresca’s men currently sitting in fifth.

Had the Blues signed Gyokeres or Victor Osimhen last summer, though, they would have challenged for the Premier League title, according to John Obi Mikel.

When Mikel spoke about Gyokeres back in January, he said: “He’s (Jackson) not scoring enough. If we had Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres, I think trust me we would have still been competing to win the Premier League.”

The best Chelsea can now hope for is a top-five finish, which is not even a guarantee.
