Chris Sutton predicts the score ahead of Wolves vs Chelsea on Christmas Eve

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Chelsea for a league match on Christmas Eve.

The Blues travel to Molineux Stadium this Sunday afternoon for a 1pm kick-off in the Premier League, which is the first Christmas Eve fixture in this country for 28 years.

There’s just three points separating the two teams in the division table, so it could be a close festive fixture.

Incidentally, Chelsea and Wolves have a win apiece plus three draws in their previous five meetings.

Prediction time

BBC pundit Chris Sutton is pretty stuck in his latest prediction segment when it comes to Chelsea. He’s gone with them to earn a point on the road versus Wolves.

“Wolves lacked intensity against West Ham last week, which makes me think they will bounce back here – but it really does depend on which Chelsea team turns up,” Sutton told BBC Sport.

“And I’m sorry but I still have absolutely no idea what to expect from Mauricio Pochettino’s side so I am going to sit firmly on the fence with this one.

“Sutton’s prediction: 1-1.”

Wolves vs Chelsea

Chelsea desperately need to try keep up recent momentum when they travel to Wolves.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat Sheffield United last weekend in the league to climb up to 10th. Also, they beat Newcastle United on penalties in midweek to set up a Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Championship club Middlesbrough in the New Year.

This final run of league games in 2023 against Wolves, Crystal Palace and Luton Town feels massive for Chelsea’s season.

There’s certainly a feel-good factor beginning to grow again with the Blues despite a really challenging first half of the campaign. For certain, the return of Christopher Nkunku from injury on Tuesday night has given everyone a lift.

Will Blues supporters see the 26-year-old French attacker make his first start on Sunday against Wolves?

Speaking via Instagram after his competitive debut for Chelsea, Nkunku thanked the Blues supporters for his warm reception off the bench in the win against Newcastle.

We’re certain that the travelling support on Christmas Eve would go mad for another Nkunku outing at Wolves.
