Chris Sutton thinks that one player at Chelsea is a brilliant fit for them with their style of play.
There’s certainly a lot of talent when you look around the Chelsea squad, so perhaps people shouldn’t be too surprised by the club’s encouraging start to the new season.
The Blues have collected 10 points from five games in the Premier League so far, which has included winning all three away fixtures (West Ham, Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers).
Enzo Maresca is getting off to the kind of positive start as head coach that he desperately needed. It’s worth remembering that ESPN previously claimed that Maresca’s target is to get Chelsea a top-four finish.

Chris Sutton impressed by Nicolas Jackson
BBC pundit Chris Sutton has delivered a glowing verdict on Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson after his two-goal display in the 3-0 victory over West Ham at the weekend. In particular, he’s claimed that the 23-year-old striker really suits the current Blues team with his pace and movement at the top end of the pitch.
“With all the mayhem going on at Chelsea last season, I actually thought he (Jackson) came out with great credit,” Sutton told the BBC’s Monday Night Club.
“I think he was signed initially as a development player, I may be wrong with that. But I think he got enough game time, maybe because of [Christopher] Nkunku’s injury last season, where he got a run of games and his goal tally was alright – he got 17 in all competitions.
“I think there are certainly parts of his game in which he needs to improve… I think he’s a player who has excellent movement in behind; he has that pace, and it’s all about the timing of his runs, and he stretches defences. With the players that Chelsea have in their team, the likes of Cole Palmer, he’s a really good fit. They get on the ball, he makes the movement, and they find him. To have that type of striker and the way that his confidence seems to have grown and he’s started the season well, that bodes well for Chelsea. There’s always this debate about Chelsea needing a number nine. Maybe, just maybe, they don’t.”
Nicolas Jackson finds his shooting boots
Jackson is one of only five players so far in the Premier League this season to score four or more goals.
Here is a look at the division’s current top scorers after the opening five rounds of fixtures:
- Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 10
- Luis Diaz (Liverpool) – 5
- Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea) – 4
- Jhon Duran (Aston Villa) – 4
- Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) – 4
It seems pretty conclusive that Erling Haaland will run away with the golden boot race again if he stays fit, but perhaps Chelsea’s frontman can be the best of the rest.
If Jackson can push for 20 league goals this term, we’re pretty confident that can play a big part of getting the club back in the top four. Let’s remember he’s got an incredible support with teammates such as Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku.
