Claude Makelele has handed Chelsea the ultimate transfer endorsement, suggesting that one of the club’s midfield targets is one of the best in the world.
Chelsea’s recruitment team is focused on midfield restructuring amid Real Madrid’s pursuit of Enzo Fernandez. Jose Mourinho is preparing a bid exceeding £100 million for Fernandez, who is open to the transfer, but the Blues hold a strong negotiation position.
On the flip side, Chelsea are finalising the signing of Valentin Barco, who has the ability to play in the middle of midfield. He has impressed on loan at Strasbourg, transitioning from left-back into his new role, with a six-year contract being agreed.
However, the incomings don’t stop there, as a central midfielder, central defender, goalkeeper and a left winger have been raised as areas of concern.

Claude Makelele picks Aurelien Tchouameni over Rodri
In a TikTok video on Diario Marca‘s page, Chelsea legend Claude Makelele was asked to pick between a number of the world’s best midfielders.
One of the questions posed was Manchester City star Rodri or Aurelien Tchouameni, in which he picked the Real Madrid man.
And, it just happens that Chelsea have an interest in signing Tchouameni this summer, alongside his teammate Dean Huijsen, who is a former Blues target.
However, the one issue is that Jose Mourinho doesn’t want to lose the Frenchman.
They’ve both made good starts to the World Cup, but who do you prefer: Noni Madueke or Pedro Neto?

Aurelien Tchouameni won’t be an easy signing for Chelsea
Chelsea face some difficulties when trying to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
The appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager provides Chelsea with a competitive advantage given his shared history with Real Madrid, but it may take a lot more than that.
Sadly, the lack of European football undermines this managerial pull. Targets like Tchouameni prioritise Champions League visibility, which Chelsea cannot offer. And that’s not the only thing, as there is competition from Manchester United, who are buoyed by their own Champions League qualification.
