Club chief thinks his side have four better players than who they sold Chelsea this summer

After a slow start, the recently closed summer transfer window turned into another entertaining one as far as Chelsea fans were concerned.

The Blues brought in a plethora of players to strengthen the squad available for Enzo Maresca in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

They were working all the way until the deadline of the transfer window last week, with them looking to complete signings and sales.

The likes of Raheem Sterling moved on late, with a sale of Angelo Gabriel to Saudi Arabia also going through yesterday.

In the final moments of last week, the Blues announced the signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, with him being seen in West London for the weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

The deal surprised a lot of people, however those at Chelsea think signing Sancho was a great deal.

United seem to be content with the deal too. Sporting director Dan Ashworth has claimed his side have four wingers who are higher up in the rankings than Sancho.

He said to Sky Sports: “I think with any player, whether it’s Jadon, whether it’s Scott [McTominay] or whether it’s Aaron, if there’s a preference that they would like to move and go to a new club and it’s right for them and it’s right for us, then you have to explore it.

“We felt we had enough depth in that particular position to be able to cover it, we’ve got four really good wide players, Jadon was a fifth, and it just enabled us to make that decision. If it was good for him and good for us it was something we were willing to consider.”

Sancho could have been the difference for Chelsea vs Palace

Maresca hinted that Sancho could have been key against Palace at the weekend, with the Blues being held to a 1-1 draw.

The attacking options the Italian has at his disposal look really strong, and the challenge remains there to find his best front four.

One player who will certainly be in there is Cole Palmer, who was named in the Premier League Team of the Month after the first few games of the season.
