Nicolas Jackson was on target again for Chelsea yesterday in their 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Senegal international impressed pundits with his display against the league leaders, although his strike only kept them level for a brief period of time.

Jackson was notably not happy with teammate Cole Palmer late on, when the England international saw a shot blocked as they chased an equaliser.

Jackson has had to prove critics wrong pretty much ever since he joined Chelsea, with many calling for the club to sign a new striker to start ahead of him.

Even this summer saw a great effort to bring in Victor Osimhen, although that deal fell through on deadline day.

Daniel Sturridge says repetition is key for Nicolas Jackson improvement

Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has stated that he believes repetition of the key actions are going to be crucial for the forward to continue to improve at Stamford Bridge.

He said to Sky Sports: “Repetition for me. And I think, I feel as if we are judging him critically because we are used to teams paying big money, getting finished article in, and we are seeing world-class players walking out, and we are thinking.

“The model has changed, the way in which teams are winning games has changed. If he is given time, he will improve, but I do believe they will sign a striker, though. I do believe that.”

Christopher Nkunku pushing for start up top for Chelsea

Jackson has so far been holding off Christopher Nkunku for a start up top in the Premier League, despite the Frenchman’s fine form in front of goal in Europe and the domestic cups.

He was brought off the bench late on against Liverpool, however his time was slightly wasted as he was forced onto the left of attack where he doesn’t feature as well.

Jackson has certainly started the current campaign well, and what he brings outside of goalscoring is something that they would really miss if he didn’t play.
