BBC pundit thinks £32m Chelsea player looked ‘quality’ against Liverpool

Despite losing 2-1 against Liverpool, there were quite a few Chelsea players who put in good performances.

Reece James did not look rusty at all for someone who was playing his first game of the season, while Romeo Lavia also put in a confident display for Enzo Maresca‘s side.

It was Nicolas Jackson, though, who scored Chelsea‘s only goal of the match, which was his fifth of the season.

Pat Nevin recently highlighted Jackson’s improvement in a blue shirt, with the 23-year-old making a fine start to the campaign.

Nicolas Jackson proving his ‘quality’

While Jackson was unable to prevent Chelsea from losing at Anfield earlier, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman was still impressed with his performance, claiming that the Senegal international is starting to look like a “quality striker”.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, with BBC Sport relaying his quotes, he said: “He’s starting to look like a quality striker Nicolas Jackson.

“His runs have always been good — even if he did get caught offside quite a bit — but now his finishing is improving as well.”

ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop has been surprised by Jackson’s form under Maresca so far.

Nicolas Jackson’s big-game record

Although he ended up on the losing side, Jackson managed to score another goal against top opposition.

Last season, his record was not too bad for a young forward who had just arrived in the Premier League.

For example, Jackson, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in a £32m deal, managed to score four goals against Tottenham Hotspur and one versus Manchester City.

He has now added Liverpool to the list and will get a crack at another English giant when Chelsea take on Manchester United next month.

Before then, the Blues face Newcastle United, which will also be a hard game. But with the form that Jackson has been in this season, Maresca’s men are definitely capable of winning all three points.

The Senegalese media were not too impressed with Jackson over the international break, but he is getting the job done at club level at present. Right now, Jackson really should be aiming to get 20 league goals by the end of the season.
