Danny Murphy thinks Mauricio Pochettino could be a great option for Chelsea in their search for a new manager.

Mauricio Pochettino, who’s currently out of work, does have a fairly positive reputation in the game.

The 51-year-old manager has done well with Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham in recent years after starting his coaching career at Espanyol and Southampton.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are about to begin talks with Pochettino about becoming their next permanent manager. They add he is the third candidate for the Blues after holding discussions with Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique already.

Journalist Matt Law repots on Twitter that Frank Lampard will arrive at Chelsea today to become the club’s interim manager until the end of the season.

However, there is still the hunt for Graham Potter’s permanent successor.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, Murphy delivered a glowing verdict on Pochettino as a manager.

He’s a huge admirer of the Argentine coach and believes he’s grown a lot in the last few years.

When asked if Pochettino would be good for Chelsea, Murphy said: “I love Poch. I think what he’s done at PSG, although he didn’t win the Champions League, is that he’s learned how to deal with bigger players. I spoke to him about it. I had a great opportunity to speak with him for a long time in Doha. How likeable is that man? How much knowledge has he got? I think Poch would be good.”

If Chelsea fans can overlook the Spurs connections, Pochettino is a really interesting option for the club.

A lot of the noise in the media is around Nagelsmann and Enrique, but it’s worth pointing out neither of them have worked in English football before.

We would like to think Lampard’s imminent appointment bides the club a bit more time to select the right manager.
