Demba Ba defends Chelsea flop who could leave Stamford Bridge this summer, ‘he’s trying’…

Demba Ba has suggested that one Chelsea player is still a viable option for Enzo Maresca despite speculation that he could leave west London at the end of the season.

There could be several exits at Stamford Bridge this summer, with many names not currently in Maresca‘s first-team plans.

The above includes Joao Felix, who is having a torrid time at AC Milan. Felix has been told to “go away” by one Milan-based site, showing just how much the 25-year-old has underwhelmed during his loan spell at the San Siro.

Christopher Nkunku is not having a great campaign either. The Frenchman was left out of Chelsea‘s matchday squad last weekend for “technical” reasons, according to Maresca.

Demba Ba suggests Christopher Nkunku can be a striker option for Chelsea

Nkunku is not a recognised centre-forward, which is one reason why Chelsea are likely to sign one this summer.

There is not adequate cover for Nicolas Jackson, and Chelsea could now bring in Liam Delap as a result.

Ba, though, does not think Maresca is actually lacking striker options since Nkunku can still operate as one, while the former Senegal international also believes that the latter is trying his best to prove himself at Chelsea.

Speaking to The Sun about the 27-year-old, Ba said: “I wouldn’t say Chelsea is lacking strikers. If you look at a player like Nkunku, he’s trying to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

“However, the issue is experience and personality. They need someone who has the personality to handle the pressure, someone who can endure pain but also command the respect of the younger players in the team.”

Nkunku has scored just three goals in 27 Premier League outings this season, though the majority of his appearances have come as a substitute.

The ex-RB Leipzig star could only score three league goals last term as well, but he missed most of the campaign because of injury.

Whatever the case, as things stand, Nkunku’s transfer to Chelsea will not go down as a success, with a summer exit now very possible.

Bayern Munich determined to sign Christopher Nkunku

Bayern Munich were interested in signing Nkunku during the January transfer window, and it does not look like they have given up on landing him.

It is thought that Bayern are determined to snap up Nkunku, so there is a possibility of the France international leaving Chelsea this summer and returning to the Bundesliga.

Until then, hopefully Nkunku can make a contribution between now and the end of the season, with Chelsea still having a lot to play for.
