Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he has just received some really bad news regarding Ben Chilwell.

He claimed in his pre-match press conference that the defender is going to be out of action for some time after spending time with the doctors.

Hamstring problems have unfortunately become a regular occurrence for Chilwell this year, and he suffered his third of the calendar year on Wednesday.

He was enjoying a strong return to the side after missing the prior two games as a starter.

However, in the final few moments he hobbled off despite the Blues picking up a much-needed victory.

There were thoughts that he may have been coming out the other end of his injury woes when he was handed the responsibility of becoming the vice-captain of the squad to Reece James.

In a similar frame to the skipper though, this has not seemed to be the case.

Pochettino admitted that the doctor has informed him that the latest problem for Chilwell is not good news at all.

He said: “Bad news. The doctor said not a good thing, need to assess. But it doesn’t look good. It’s difficult to know now (how long he will be out for).”

It remains to be seen what the manager decides to do regarding the left-back role for the coming games.

He has stuck to Levi Colwill there for the majority of the season so far, however he showed on Wednesday just how good he is when playing centre-back.

Ian Maatsen and Marc Cucurella have both staked their claim for the role with their recent strong performances, albeit both not actually being on the left of defence.
