There’s still a chance that Enzo Fernandez stays at Chelsea this summer, but it is very much dependent on a few conditions.
Enzo Fernandez is still away with Argentina at the World Cup and could make it all the way to the final with the way Lionel Messi is playing.
However, much of the talk has been around his future rather than his performances, as they’ve been rather mute. Though it’s Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, who is doing most of the talking for him, painting him in a bad light by stating that they’re working on a move away.
Enzo Fernandez needs to leave Chelsea for the good of the club 👋🏻
Thoughts?
You would have thought that Pastore would have learnt his lesson after all the backlash that Fernandez received for his comments about Real Madrid earlier on in this season.
But, there are contrasting reports floating around, so no one knows what to believe currently.
Enzo Fernandez wants Chelsea to challenge for the title
Simon Johnson of The Athletic has suggested that Enzo Fernandez will want to hear evidence that Chelsea will be title contenders if he is to stay.
Now, you can’t rule out anything with a man like Xabi Alonso at the helm, but it would be unfair to expect Chelsea to be title challengers in his first season.
This follows on from two demands that Fernandez made earlier on in the season, which involved more experienced players to be signed and an increased contract offer.
Now, Chelsea’s pursuit of Granit Xhaka is positive and fits the experience mould, but there’s been no progression on the contract front.
With Marco Palestra officially in the building, does he instantly start over Reece James or Malo Gusto?👀
The ball is in Chelsea’s court with Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea holds a powerful hand in persuading Enzo Fernandez to commit his future to Stamford Bridge, largely thanks to Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard’s appointment has injected some credibility into the club’s project.
Under Alonso’s guidance, Fernandez has the perfect platform to operate as the focal point in midfield alongside his fellow countryman Valentin Barco.
The only worry is his attitude and conduct towards Chelsea. If there is even 1% of doubt in his mind about committing to the Blues then he’s better off going elsewhere.
Chelsea cannot afford passengers anymore.
