The new Chelsea manager addressed the media for the first time overnight as he prepares for his first game in charge of the club.

Enzo Maresca is now officially a few weeks into his time with the Blues, and is now hours away from having the opportunity to show what he can do in charge of the club.

With the exception of Djordje Petrovic and a very upset Trevoh Chalobah, the Blues have flown out to the United States to take part in a plethora of pre-season fixtures.

It remains to be seen how the Italian looks to use a large amount of his new players, with his traditional system impressing many in training so far.

One player many are wondering about in particular is Reece James, providing he can stay fit for the majority of the campaign.

Maresca to try Reece James in inverted role

It looks as if no one has put more work into finding his best position than Maresca, who stated in his press conference that he was considering playing him in a role he had not played in since his loan away.

He said to Chelsea’s official website: “In these weeks, we try different situations [with inverting]. We try James inside. I watched his games [for Wigan Athletic on loan] against, I don’t remember now, he was playing as a midfielder. Malo is trying to do that. Marc can do that. We will try different situations.”

Malo Gusto competing with James for minutes

James has established himself as one of the best natural full-backs both in attack and defence, however no doubt has the ability to play in that inverted role that will see him on the ball a lot more.

Maresca has been seen trying Malo Gusto here during open training, with the Frenchman certainly keeping the skipper on his toes for minutes.

He will definitely start the new season in some capacity, with James suspended for the opening three games off the back of a suspension from last season.
