It is fair to say that Enzo Maresca was very pleased with Cole Palmer’s performance in Chelsea’s 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
For once, Cole Palmer was unable to score, while he failed to register an assist either.
Thanks to Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke, though, Chelsea were still able to get the job done.
While Palmer has obviously had more productive games, Maresca was still pleased with his display. Palmer was a doubt for the Wolves match but managed to start the fixture in the end.

Enzo Maresca impressed with Cole Palmer’s leadership
Maresca felt that Palmer showed real leadership in the Blues’ latest victory at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to football.london and the rest of the English media after the game, the Chelsea head coach said: “For me tonight it has been one of the best games from Cole in terms of showing leadership in a difficult moment for the team. He showed himself second half asking for the ball.
“In the moment you have to see that kind of player not only when they score goals or give assists. They are very important for the team also when they need them and they are there.
“For Cole, with the problem in his ankle he was there second half asking for the ball. He was a little bit the leader in the team in that moment so we are very happy with the Cole performance.”
The attacking midfielder continues to receive plaudits after another stunning season. After Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, Peter Crouch compared Palmer to Mesut Ozil.

Cole Palmer’s numbers vs Wolves
While Palmer may not have been able to get his name on the scoresheet against Wolves, some of his stats were still very impressive, though that is unlikely to surprise Chelsea fans.
Even when the 22-year-old does not record a goal contribution, his impact on the pitch can still be felt.
In the victory over Vitor Pereira’s side, for example, Palmer was still able to register three key passes and complete two crosses. If the Blues still had the clinical edge that they showed at the start of the season, then the Englishman probably would have finished the fixture with at least one assist.
| Cole Palmer vs Wolves | Total |
| Minutes | 84 |
| Touches | 55 |
| Key passes | 3 |
| Crosses (accurate) | 3 (2) |
| Shots on target | 1 |
With Chelsea’s next Premier League game being against Manchester City, who look to be at their best again, hopefully the Blues can rediscover their precision in front of goal. They need to avoid defeat at the Etihad if they want to finish the weekend above their opponents and in the top four.
