Given the size of the squad Chelsea had at the start of this season, it was going to be very difficult for everyone to get the gametime they felt they deserved.
Enzo Maresca did the best he could on this front, utilising the Conference League group stages for mass rotation that also kept his starters rested.
A number of those who felt undervalued took the January transfer market as their opportunity to try a new challenge, with many leaving on loan.
Joao Felix and Renato Veiga, both players who were only signed last summer, made the decision to move to AC Milan and Juventus respectively. Felix’s spell is turning into a nightmare after not being able to have the desired affect on his new side.

Carney Chukwuemeka proving Chelsea wrong with latest Borussia Dortmund display
Another player who made a move during the winter was Carney Chukwuemeka, who was finding appearances harder than anyone to come by since Maresca became manager.
The midfielder started just one game for the Blues this season, with that being in the freezing conditions of Kazakhstan where most of the first team were rested.
He ended up making the move to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund, with him having the opportunity to play in the Champions League.
Thiago Silva expressed confusement at the deal, however by all accounts his new side have been very impressed with what they have seen from him so far.
Saturday saw Chukwuemeka make a start on the left of midfield, with him finding the net early in the second half in what ended up being a 4-1 win.

It has already been reported that Dortmund would like to keep Chukwuemeka, however signing him permanently may be an issue due to it being unlikely they qualify for the Champions League next season.

What has Enzo Maresca said about Chukwuemeka?
Maresca admitted after the summer transfer window closed that Chukwuemeka could return to his plans now that he had stayed at the club.
This didn’t play out though. The youngster didn’t make a single appearance in the Premier League for Chelsea this season.
It was then reported in January that Maresca had told Chukwuemeka he can leave during that transfer window, with him clearly out of the plans at that moment.
The young midfielder’s future remains up in the air, however what is clear is there is a talented player who Chelsea fans have not seen the best out of yet.
