This club in particular have been beneficiary to both Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen in the past, and the talent the youngster has suggests he could easily add his name to that list.

Chukwuemeka was absent from the squad at the weekend due to injury, however was fit enough to be subbed on with four minutes to go in their 3-0 playoff win over Sporting Lisbon.

One figure who was playing plenty of attention is the England youth international’s former teammate Thiago Silva, who seemed perplexed at the situation that saw him featuring for another side.

The Brazil legend took to Instagram to give his wordless thoughts on the moment, responding with an emoji that suggested everything about it was very strange.

Carney Chukwuemeka’s nightmare season at Chelsea

Despite managing to stay clear of the injury woes that have affected him greatly since his move to Chelsea, the 2024/25 campaign has been a tough one for Chukwuemeka.

Enzo Maresca stated outright that the plan was for him to depart in the summer, although hinted that when he stayed he could have the opportunity to compete for minutes.

This turned out not to be the case, and he started just one game in the freezing conditions against Astana in the Conference League, where a host of youngsters featured.

Any efforts for Chelsea to permanently sell Chukwuemeka over the summer were held back by their desire to receive his full release clause, and given Dortmund’s record in the past it feels unlikely they will reach that tally no matter how well he does.
