New Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is now three pre-season games into his career at his new club, with improvement across that time clear for all to see.

The dominant victory over Club America last time out was a showcase of some of the principles put in place since the Italian came in.

Maresca was handed a long contract when it was him who was chosen to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who no doubt succeeded in his single campaign at the club.

Enzo Maresca was wanted by ‘important’ Premier League club before Chelsea

Many supporters were keen for a more established name to come in, given the fact that it looks like a delicate time in the project laid out by the new owners.

However, Maresca was a wanted man, with him saying himself to the that the Blues were not the only top side looking to bring him this summer.

Journalist Kieran Gill tweeted: “Enzo Maresca reveals another “important” Premier League club tried to hire him while he was in talks with Chelsea. ‘They asked me, ‘Do we still have time or is it too late?’ But by then I was already taking my decision.’”

Despite the Italian not naming the side who got in contact with him, clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool and Brighton were all looking to hire new managers this summer.

The test on the opening day of the season is one that will certainly see what Maresca has about him, with him welcoming Manchester City to Stamford Bridge.

Dewsbury-Hall pushing for start vs Manchester City

His players will no doubt be looking to prove that they should be in contention to start that day, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s superb display against Club America has certainly put him in contention after his summer move.

Another player who will be pushing to start that game is Raheem Sterling, who will be coming up against his former side.

The winger scored in both games against City last season, with him looking someone who had a real point to prove whenever he lined up against Pep Guardiola’s side.
