Chelsea star Estevao Willian reveals he couldn’t sleep after news of hamstring injury

Understandably, Estevao was devastated and in tears upon hearing how serious his hamstring injury was.

In fact, the 19-year-old has revealed that he did not even sleep one night after learning that his World Cup dreams were over.

When asked if he cried when hearing the news, Estevao told SportsCenter Brazil: “A lot. A lot. It’s the fulfilment of a dream to play in a World Cup. Everyone waits for that, especially me, because I had been part of the whole process. It was a moment of huge sadness in my heart. I don’t think I even slept that night.”

There are now fears that Estevao could miss the whole of pre-season and may not return to action until after the start of the 2026/27 campaign.

Estevao made 36 appearances in all competitions before being sidelined. He scored eight goals and provided four assists, which is not bad for a teenager playing in England for the first time.

Going forward, hopefully his output will increase, which you would expect given his talent and potential.

Chelsea have quite good options on the right. Estevao, Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto are all able to play there. On the other hand, they need a bit of surgery on the opposite flank.

The signings of Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have not worked out, with the former now possibly set to leave Stamford Bridge despite having only arrived less than a year ago.

In terms of potential replacements, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers could come in and play there. It is thought that Chelsea believe Rogers is perfect for their project.

A potential attack of Rogers, Estevao, Palmer and Joao Pedro does not sound too bad. It could be good enough to get the club back into the top four if everyone can stay fit.
