Fabrizio Romano has hinted that one Chelsea transfer target is not actually as close to signing a new contract with his current club as they would lead to you believe.
He told KICK Streaming that the opportunity for Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli at the end of the season is high, with recent comments mere pressure in the media.
Osimhen has been strongly linked as the number one target for many transfer chiefs at Stamford Bridge right now.
It has also been reported that the player is top of Mauricio Pochettino’s list in terms of players he would like to bring in to strengthen his options up top.
Despite an actually decent goalscoring record in his first season in England, Nicolas Jackson has not established himself as an undroppable player at Stamford Bridge.
It has been claimed that Chelsea would be keen to sign Osimhen in January, however it looks as if a deal is not possible to be reached in the middle of the season.
Osimhen not close to new contract
Romano has now claimed though that despite recent comments that the club expect him to sign a new deal, there has been no update on that front.
He said: “I’m not sure they are that close to signing a new deal. Napoli like to use the media to put some pressure. I think the opportunity for Osimhen to leave in summer 2024 remains really concrete. I don’t think January is realistic.”
Another option that has been frequently mentioned as a potential striker at Stamford Bridge is Ivan Toney, who looks set to be on the move from Brentford.
The Blues are likely going to face competition from the Englishman for the signing, with Arsenal also reportedly showing an interest.
