Chelsea’s first-team player has just been spotted doing individual work on the training pitch away from the main group, but there’s not thought to be any immediate worries about his fitness.

Chelsea are currently in preparation for their third game of the pre-season tour, which is against Club America on Thursday. Hopefully, the fitness and performance levels increase from the first two friendlies versus Wrexham and Celtic.

Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is learning more about his large squad every day as he adapts to life himself in his new position. Speaking via Chelsea’s official website before the Club America match, Maresca said Chelsea must improve on and off the ball.

Levi Colwill trains alone

Football.London has noted that Chelsea’s Levi Colwill was doing some individual training on Tuesday night. The 21-year-old defender has featured in both games so far in the US against Wrexham and Celtic, but has just trained alone away from the main group in the latest session.

It is explained that there’s ‘no immediate concern’ to the centre-back’s fitness. He was seen running up and down the pitch with a coach, with no visible trouble in his movement.

But apparently, the Englishman didn’t get involved in training drills with his teammates throughout the training.

There was no suggestion from Maresca in his pre-match press conference that there were any injury concerns with Colwill, so let’s wait and see if he’s involved against Club America in less than 24 hours time.

Will Levi Colwill be in Chelsea’s best XI?

Colwill, who’s a product of Chelsea’s academy, is certainly one of the youngsters in the first-team squad with the biggest potential. It’s why Mauricio Pochettino described him as a “fantastic talent” last August, via Chelsea’s official website.

The early signs under Maresca suggest Colwill is an option for the Blues at a left-back. But when Chelsea are in possession, it very much looks like a third centre-back because that allows the right-back to invert into midfield.

Colwill’s definitely got the composure on the ball and the passing range to thrive in Chelsea’s defence regardless of the position. Let’s hope he can now build on a decent debut season in the Blues first-team squad last year.
