While Chelsea fans continue to remain undecided over current manager Enzo Maresca, a former player and boss at Stamford Bridge is enjoying a sensational spell in charge in the Championship.

Frank Lampard has helped conduct a massive turnaround at Coventry City, with them now in contention to finish in the play-off places in the second division of English football.

His side have become accustomed to scoring late winners, with one recently sparking wild celebrations from Lampard on the touchline.

Coventry fans have been delighted with Lampard and the impact he has had, with Chelsea fans envious at times as they look at their current situation.

The Blues have hit a poor run of form in 2025 that has seen them currently outside of the top five places which will guarantee them a Champions League finish.

Frank Lampard’s tactics offer Enzo Maresca best advice for Cole Palmer

One of the main reasons they have fallen away is due to the poor form of Cole Palmer, who has not scored in more than three months in all competitions.

Some have put the drop in goals down to the way he features under Maresca. It is fair to say Palmer had much more of a free role in the side when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge of the club.

Lampard seems to have more belief in the Argentine’s way of thinking in that the players need to be allowed the freedom to express themselves after taking the instructions on board.

He told Sky Sports: “I think the first thing you have to do is look at the squad and see the attributes of the players, and see where they are comfortable. You have to convince them and work with them, it takes times.

“I like my players to have clear structure clear idea of the balance of the time, in terms of positional discipline, but I also want them to have a sense of freedom from those clear details, the minute you go onto the pitch there are parts of the game that have to be your understanding.

“If a full-back is talking about coming inside, I don’t want to have to say to you ‘you play here, this is you’. When you feel the moment, can you arrive in the space at the right time? Detail, and a little bit of freedom around that.”

Chelsea fans praise Lampard as Maresca toils

Reports have stated that Maresca is safe in his role as Chelsea manager despite a number of embarrasing results, and the fact that Champions League qualification is now a difficult goal to achieve.

This has not stopped supporters being unhappy with what the Italian has delivered so far, with the boss also making plenty of comments about the atmosphere inside Stamford Bridge on matchday.

Some Chelsea fans have even called for Lampard to replace Maresca and undertake what would be an unprecedented third stint in charge of the club, after coming in as takeover following Graham Potter’s sacking.

The current head coach’s focus will be completely focused on the next game and opportunity to get three points on the board, starting with hosting Everton on Saturday.
