Despite Chelsea’s defensive issues in the current campaign, Gary Cahill has been impressed with one of their centre-halves.
Jorrel Hato’s form has really improved as the season has gone on, but central defence in particular has been a problem for Chelsea.
They were only able to keep one clean sheet in the Premier League under Liam Rosenior before he was sacked as manager last week.

Gary Cahill claims Trevoh Chalobah has been Chelsea’s most consistent defender this season
On paper, Trevoh Chalobah is probably not Chelsea’s best defender, certainly based on ability. However, he has been quite reliable for the Blues this term.
Cahill has now claimed that he has been the most consistent defender in the Chelsea squad.
Speaking to The Standard, the ex-England international said: “Having seen Chelsea a lot of times this season and the number of changes and injuries they’ve had at the back, he’s been the constant — the more consistent defender for Chelsea.
“His attitude since he came back from Crystal Palace has been tremendous, the way he’s produced the performances he has for Chelsea.”

Technically, most Chelsea fans would say that Levi Colwill is the team’s best centre-back, but he has not played a game all season because of injury.
Cahill has also been discussing Colwill, tipping the 23-year-old to come back stronger from his injury. Chelsea do not want to rush Colwill, but there is a possibility that he plays for the first team before the end of the campaign.
They would love to have him for it, but next Monday’s game against Nottingham Forest may come too soon.
Who should be Levi Colwill’s centre-back partner next season?
Trevoh Chalobah could still be set to lose his place next season
It is hard to argue with Cahill here. In terms of consistency, Chalobah has been at the top of the pile, or at least compared to Chelsea’s other defenders.
Nevertheless, the England international could still lose his spot in the team next term. Colwill will be back from injury, while the club could sign a new central defender in the transfer window.
If they do that, Chalobah may have to drop down to the bench. It sounds a bit harsh, but if Chelsea can bring in an experienced and dominant centre-half this summer, they cannot say no to that.
