A criticism that is frequently made of the current Chelsea side is that with their youthful culture, there are a lack of leaders around.

Club captain Reece James is just 24 years of age, while Enzo Fernandez who has taken the armband for the majority of this season is even younger.

Looking back a decade or so, this was the complete opposite to the current situation at Chelsea, with them having plenty of experienced players leading the side.

One of those was Gary Cahill, who would go on to become the club captain under the tenure of Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

Cahill stated today that he disliked working under Sarri, with it coming at the same time as to when he was being transitioned out of the first team picture.

Cahill always argued with John Obi Mikel at Chelsea

The former defender has also shared today that he would frequently get into arguments with John Obi Mikel during their time at the club together.

He said to the ‘Obi One Podcast’: “He’s [Mikel] in that position I really respect. Holding midfielder is key, and he is up there with one of the best I played with. The regular arguments that we used to have in the game about who was picking up who.

“So he would turn round to me as soon as his man leaves him he thinks I’m picking him up. That was constant.”

Mikel added: “Me and Gaz – that was the fight. It happened on the pitch, definitely on the pitch.”

Cahill impressed by Christopher Nkunku

Cahill was impressed with what he saw from Christopher Nkunku during Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

The Frenchman came off the bench to score the only goal of the game, and is no doubt vying for a place in Enzo Maresca’s starting side when the next game comes around.

The Chelsea Chronicle suggested three ways Nkunku could feature for the Blues, with competition for places in attack clear to see.
