Gary Neville thinks 23-year-old Chelsea player is about to get sold after what Mauricio Pochettino did tonight

Pundit Gary Neville has claimed that he believes Chelsea are about to sell one player after what happened today.

He said during commentary for Sky Sports that he believes Conor Gallagher could be surplus to requirements after he did not start in arguably the biggest game of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino will have excited many Chelsea fans with the team he selected for the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.

Things certainly went to plan for the Argentine, who oversaw a rampant 6-0 win over Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer scored twice and featured in the role just in front of a midfield two that consisted of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

This saw Gallagher, usually one of the first names on the team sheet under Pochettino, was forced to watch from the bench until his second-half introduction.

Neville predicts Gallagher sale

When he was subbed on, Neville posed the question as to whether the Blues were actually considering selling the England international.

He said: “Are they really going to sell him?”

Fellow commentator Bill Leslie replied: “Well if you are in the camp that think that they might, the fact he was left out tonight, does that tell you anything?

Neville then claimed: “Well, that’s what I thought when I saw the team sheet come through. It’s got to the point where you have spent that much money that you have got to sell one of your own, who is playing pretty well, to fund it.”

Reports have claimed in recent weeks that the Blues are still open to the sale of Gallagher if a good offer comes in this month, even if it is from a rival such as Tottenham.

However, it has continued to be claimed that the player is extremely happy at Stamford Bridge, and is prepared to fight for his place in the side.
