Glenn Hoddle suggests that Mauricio Pochettino could be a good fit as Chelsea’s next permanent manager.

Chelsea supporters are desperate to hear some good news over the search for their next head coach, with results really grinding down their patience every week.

The Blues lost for the fifth straight game on Wednesday night, suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford in the Premier League.

However, recent speculation does suggest they’ll soon confirm Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager for next season.

Somehow the group have to lift themselves under caretaker boss Frank Lampard for the final six games of this campaign, though.

The Telegraph claimed last night that Pochettino could soon complete a deal to become Chelsea’s next manager. Apparently, the 51-year-old Argentine may wrap up the deal with Chelsea in the next few days or by early next week.

The football side of things is dire right now under Lampard, but maybe players can kick into gear if they know the identity of next season’s manager.

Pochettino has had a year-long break since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, but he’s proven in the past his quality in developing sides. In particular, he did a fantastic job during five years at Tottenham in improving them, albeit they couldn’t get over the line for silverware.

The Times recently claimed that Pochettino wants homegrown stars to be an important part of the group at Stamford Bridge if he lands the Chelsea job. It’s the kind of news that should excite so many in the squad.

Glenn Hoddle gives thumbs up

When discussing Pochettino links to Chelsea, Hoddle told BT Sport: “It looks to me like a good fit for them.

“I think Mauricio would’ve been waiting for the call from Tottenham, if I’m really honest, but that hasn’t come, and that’s pretty evident. I can see him going to Chelsea, yes.

“I think they wanted to give him (Potter) time, build something from the academy, and bring youngsters in. That’s where Poch has done that at Tottenham. It was a young group of players he moulded and got them to play like they were playing. He wants them to press.

“… I think he’ll be excited about the squad that he’s taking over there, without a doubt.”
