Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has shared what Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff have done recently that has been a real positive.

He told the club website that those who work closely with the squad have been key in boosting the confidence around the camp.

Cucurella individually has been one of the biggest winners of the Pochettino era so far. His Chelsea career was on the ropes over the summer.

He was very nearly the subject of a loan move to Manchester United, however remained at the club as what looked like a third or fourth choice left-back.

A number of injuries at the back though saw him handed his chance in the Premier League. This originally came at right-back.

However, he impressed enough to be given a chance in his natural left-sided role, which he has taken with both hands.

He has now put his turnaround in confidence and form down to the impact of Pochettino and his staff.

Cucurella pleased with Chelsea staff

He said: “He is a good manager. We know we are a good team and one of the important things is to have the team healthy, because we run a lot and press a lot. Now it’s about playing and getting confidence.

“The coaching staff like to be close with the players and speak with us, I think that is good for the team. We need to feel the confidence and I think he and his staff help a lot.

“We are in a good way and need to continue. There are a lot of games to finish the season and if we continue in this way, we can do good things this season.”

Cucurella will be hoping he is handed the start over Levi Colwill on the left of defence when Premier League football returns on Saturday against Newcastle.
