Graham Potter has been discussing his relationship with Chelsea’s owners, who sacked him in April 2023.

Graham Potter was hired by Todd Boehly and co in 2022 after they decided to get rid of Thomas Tuchel.

However, the 49-year-old was not at Stamford Bridge for long, receiving the sack the same season he was appointed due to poor results.

Potter has now opened up on his current relationship with Chelsea’s owners. Potter has also shared the warning he gave Boehly during the 2023 January transfer window.

Graham Potter understands Chelsea sacking

Potter would have been disappointed with his dismissal from Chelsea. The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss signed a five-year contract but did not even get to finish one season in west London.

He does not seem to harbour any ill feelings towards Boehly and the rest of the Chelsea board, though, and does not think the American has tried to destroy his career in the game.

Speaking on High Performance, Potter said: “I’d like to think I’ve still got a decent relationship with them. They’re smart guys, they’re ambitious, they want the right thing for Chelsea.

“So I don’t for one second think they’re doing anything because they want to ruin my football career. It’s just football happens and these things happen.”

Chelsea have raided Brighton on multiple occasions since being taken over by Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

As well as taking Potter from them, they also took Marc Cucurella. Potter recently praised Cucurella’s character, working with him at Brighton and Chelsea.

Graham Potter’s record at Chelsea

Right now, Chelsea are flying under Enzo Maresca. In total, the Blues have won 11 games, drawn four and lost four since the Italian’s arrival.

Despite it still being November, Chelsea have already scored 47 goals under Maresca. During Potter’s tenure at the club, things looked a lot different.

Potter only managed to win one more game than Chelsea’s current boss and saw his side register just 33 goals across all competitions.

All in all, Chelsea had good reason to remove Potter from the dugout, and it is a decision it looks like he fully understood. Looking at some of the numbers from his tenure, he probably could not make much of an argument.
