There will be a huge English intrigue when Bayern Munich host Chelsea on Wednesday night in the Champions League. Ahead of the European showdown, Harry Kane has claimed that England teammate Cole Palmer has all the tools to be a “world-class player” in the future.

The Blues are back in the Champions League this season after a two-year absence. First up, they face a daunting trip to Germany in the league phase to face Bayern Munich this week.

Without a doubt, Bayern and England centre-forward Harry Kane, 32, will be one of the biggest threats to Chelsea at the Allianz Arena.

From Chelsea’s perspective, Cole Palmer could be the attacker to provide their spark. The good news is that the 23-year-old playmaker came off the bench and scored in Saturday’s 2-2 Premier League draw against Brentford, but let’s wait and see if he’s fit enough to start on Wednesday.

Gianfranco Zola is hugely impressed by Palmer’s development, claiming he’s becoming such an efficient footballer.

Even though Opta’s Supercomputer predicts Bayern will beat Chelsea, Enzo Maresca’s side should take confidence from their form in 2025, particularly with what they did to win the Club World Cup.

Harry Kane tips Cole Palmer to become a world-class player

As Bayern prepare to host Chelsea, Kane has delivered glowing praise on upcoming opponent Palmer. He thinks that his international teammate can reach ‘world-class’ status once he’s got the longevity.

When asked about Palmer during a pre-match press conference, Kane said via Bayern’s official YouTube channel: “All I can say is he’s a great player. I enjoy playing with Cole.

“Whenever you have a No.10 who can find through balls, [make] good crosses, [have] good link-up play, drop deep and play longer balls, arrive in the box and score goals… I think he has all the attributes to be a world-class player. For me, world class is when you do it over a period of time, consistently over five, 10 years. For sure, he’s on that path.

“It’s been a shame not to play with him in the last camps. Hopefully, he stays fit over the next year because he’s an important player for us with the national team as well. He’s going to be a handful tomorrow. We know how he likes to play. Stopping him is another thing we’re going to have to get right. Hopefully we can keep him quiet tomorrow.”

Jamie Carragher predicted Chelsea would struggle in the Champions League before the tournament got underway. In fairness, it doesn’t get much harder than a trip to Munich to begin with.

They also have trips to Atalanta, Napoli and Qarabag to navigate. As for their home ties, they welcome Barcelona, Benfica, Ajax and Pafos to Stamford Bridge.

Hopefully, Palmer now gets the opportunity to truly establish himself as one of the best footballers on the planet right now by shining on Champions League nights.

Cole Palmer is the man for the big occasion

It should surprise nobody if Palmer rocks up and delivers a masterclass in Munich tomorrow night. Even if he’s not ready for 90 minutes, we’re confident he can make a key contribution in a short cameo.

His track record is that he loves to turn it on in the biggest matches.

The attacking genius has delivered in so many high-profile games already in his career, including in the finals of the Club World Cup, European Championship and Conference League. It feels like he can be the difference-maker for Chelsea against the elite teams.

Jody Morris backs Palmer to reach the next level by proving himself in the Champions League this season.
