Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Levi Colwill still has a chance to start at the weekend against Nottingham Forest.

He told Football London that the defender is not actually injured despite limping off the pitch last night against AFC Wimbledon.

Colwill was one of a few Chelsea starters who were called upon to feature in the League Cup against lower league opposition.

Things certainly didn’t go their way throughout the 90 minutes. They found themselves a goal down with just a few minutes to go until half-time.

However, Noni Madueke won and scored a penalty before the manager brought on some of the big guns to finish the tie off.

Arguably the biggest of all, Enzo Fernandez, was the one who won it with his first goal for the club.

While the performance wasn’t perfect, the worst news threatened to come after the game. Colwill had limped off straight down the tunnel in the second half.

Pochettino says Colwill is fit

He was seen applauding the fans with ice strapped to his ankle, further adding fear to the situation.

However, Pochettino came out and eased any fears by stating that he is likely to be available for the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

He said: “No, he’s not injured. It’s not a big issue, small problem. He got ice on his ankle but it’s not going to be a problem for the weekend.”

The Englishman has played a key role for the club this season as he has finally established himself at Stamford Bridge.

He has started all three games so far this season, and will be hoping he is fit enough to compete against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

He seems to already have the full backing of the boss, who described him when he joined as a ‘fantastic talent’.
