‘His ultimate goal’: 22-year-old Chelsea man really wants to stay and succeed at Stamford Bridge – journalist

Journalist Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport that Conor Gallagher really wants to stay and succeed at Chelsea.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in January as the club prepared for somewhat of a midfield merry-go round.

They accepted a decent bid from Arsenal on deadline day for Jorginho, after the league leaders gave up on their pursuit of Moises Caicedo from Brighton.

On the penultimate day of the window, the club also had to consider whether to accept a bid of £45m from Everton for the player.

However, with a move for eventual club-record signing Enzo Fernandez not secure, they could not take the risk of moving into the rest of the season without two of their original players.

It has been claimed since that Gallagher did not personally want the move to Goodison Park.

Gallagher wants to succeed at Chelsea

Now, Phillips has reiterated that his personal desire is to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “So, I’ve said this for some time now, it all depends on the second half of the season. Conor has always wanted to stay at Chelsea; that’s his ultimate goal.”

Reports recently suggest that a number of Premier League sides will be interested in striking a deal for the 22-year-old at the end of this season, and feel confident that he will be available to sign.

This may come as a result of the rumours that Chelsea are still not finished in investing in midfielders despite the addition of Fernandez.

Caicedo was a player that the Blues were also closely monitoring last month, with them having an actual bid turned down early in the month.

With Graham Potter’s interest, they may return for the Brighton man, however will also be wary of the potential moves that Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham are about to make.
