How Todd Boehly now feels about buying Chelsea after disastrous 2025/26 season

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali probably did not know what they were getting themselves into when they completed their takeover of Chelsea in 2022.

There have been some highs, with the club winning the Club World Cup and Conference League at the end of the 2024/25 season.

However, there have also been a lot of lows, on and off the pitch. Chelsea finished in 10th place last term and still do not have a front-of-shirt sponsor.

The above and the club’s strategy in the transfer market have resulted in plenty of criticism from supporters. There have been protests and unsavoury chants aimed at BlueCo, Chelsea’s parent company, which was set up by Boehly and Eghbali.

Even so, according to The Telegraph, neither Boehly nor Clearlake Capital have any regrets about purchasing the Blues.

To win over Chelsea fans this summer, Boehly and Eghbali are going to have to oversee a strong transfer window.

Many are still disappointed with last summer’s business, with the decision to bring in Alejandro Garnacho still being questioned, for example.

The winger has struggled at Stamford Bridge and could already be heading for the exit door. It has been claimed that Chelsea have slapped a £40m price tag on Garnacho, which is how much they paid for him in August 2025.

While Garnacho could be leaving, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers may be on his way to Chelsea. But it is going to take more than that for fans to be convinced.

There is a consensus that Chelsea also need an experienced centre-back and perhaps a new goalkeeper. If Chelsea strengthen those two positions and bring in a left winger to replace Garnacho, fans may start to get off Boehly and Co’s backs for a bit.

Of course, the club also need to have a much better season. That is what everyone will be judged on.
