Mauricio Pochettino has now tipped one member of his first team squad to be really important for Chelsea in the coming weeks.

He claimed during his pre-match press conference that recent circumstances have allowed Djordje Petrovic a great chance to prove himself to those at the club.

The manager has already made one big call regarding his squad for tomorrow, however it has been enforced due to an injury suffered in the last game against Everton.

Petrovic is yet to feature for the Blues from the start yet this season, with the goalkeeper position being locked down so far.

However, Robert Sanchez will see his run of starting every game come to an end from tomorrow after being forced off injured against Everton.

Pochettino claimed earlier today that this now presents a great opportunity for Petrovic to make his first appearance at Stamford Bridge.

Petrovic opportunity to star

He went on to say that he believes the player has the potential to play a massive role for his side in the Spaniard’s absence.

He said: “He has huge potential. We really trust him to perform in the way we want.”

Supporters have not been sold on Sanchez as of yet, with there always being an air of caution whenever the ball is at his feet.

While it is currently being claimed that there are no immediate plans for another goalkeeper to be brought in during one of the upcoming transfer windows, performances will likely have to improve between the sticks in order to keep it this way.

Tomorrow provides an excellent opportunity for Petrovic to prove that he should be considered for more minutes in the future, as Chelsea look to return to winning ways with the visit of Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
