‘I don’t think’… TalkSPORT pundit picks out two Chelsea players who really lack character

TalkSPORT pundit Perry Groves has said that there’s a real lack of character in the current Chelsea squad.

In particular, Blues defenders Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile have been identified as two individuals that may be lacking in the character department.

For what it’s worth, we’re immediately going to disagree with the suggestion about the two bullish centre-backs.

However, any Chelsea fan has got to concede the team is in a real slump this season. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino certainly needs to try to lift the intensity because it’s hard to pick out any complete 90 minute performances this year, rather the attack run out of ideas and opposition teams penetrate too easily.

Lack of character at Chelsea

Perry Groves picks out two of Chelsea’s player that lack a big presence in the field, with Disasi and Badiashile in the firing line.

He told talkSPORT: “On the recruitment side of it, they’ve bought too many players who are very, very similar.

“I don’t think there’s a lot of character in that Chelsea side. I was saying about Disasi and Badiashile as your two centre-halves, you wouldn’t look at them and think they were two stoic centre-halves where they could abate any attacks that were coming their way.”

We’d firmly disagree when it comes to Chelsea centre-backs Disasi and Badiashile.

Yes, there’s a soft core running through this squad at times. It does look like some gap to close to the best teams with the elite mentality.

However, there’s still talented individuals at Stamford Bridge that want to be here.

Disasi, 25, is a pretty solid centre-back that has shown promise during this debut campaign in English football. There’s times he’s looked pretty dependable alongside Thiago Silva in the heart of defence.

Meanwhile, Badiashile gave Chelsea fans a reason to smile during a miserable second half of last season. The 22-year-old centre-half had had injury problems and is working back to his best, but we’ve seen first-hand he’s composed and has personality.

Speaking via Chelsea’s official website last month, Badiashile explained that he really enjoys playing alongside Disasi.
