Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed he knows he is currently playing Ben Chilwell out of position.

He told the club’s Twitter page that he is aware the player is a full-back, although praised his ability to create chances for others in the team.

Chilwell has been an ever-present for the Blues this season, with them already proving a favourite with the new manager.

Ever since Reece James’ injury in the opening days of the campaign, the England international has donned the captain’s armband.

He has been featuring as a left-winger essentially for the Blues, on the opposite wing to where Raheem Sterling has been arguably the best player for them this season.

This has seen Levi Colwill feature in a hybrid between the left centre-back and left-back role. While he has still been good this season, it has certainly been a test for him to defend the likes of Mohamed Salah out wide.

Pochettino says Chilwell out of position

Pochettino has now claimed he is aware that the 26-year-old has been slightly out of position, although has defended his opinion to feature him there.

He said: “Ben is a fullback. I know. But he can help the team in a different position. But I think in animation I think Chilwell in four games he created more chances than any other player.

“In the national team last week, I think Ben played in a similar position.”

It remains to be seen whether Pochettino sticks with this experiment for when the Blues are back in action in the league against Bournemouth.

He also has the opportunity to line up with Mykhailo Mudryk on the wing, keeping Chilwell in his regular position.
