‘I’d ask why’… TalkSPORT pundit calls out Mauricio Pochettino for 23-year-old Chelsea man’s poor form

Some of Chelsea’s recent signings have really failed to make a major impact since arriving at the club.

The above includes Mykhailo Mudryk, who has only scored three goals in the Premier League since joining Chelsea last January.

Speaking on talkSPORT, though, Adrian Durham believes that Mauricio Pochettino has to take some responsibility for Mudryk’s struggles.

The winger was brought on in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday but was not able to influence the game.

Mudryk has been in and out of Pochettino’s side this season, making nine starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino not getting the best out of Mykhailo Mudryk

Durham feels that Pochettino should be getting much more out of Mudryk.

On the 23-year-old, the talkSPORT host said: “Mudryk was Ukrainian Player of the Year two years ago. He was sensational at Shakhtar Donetsk. That’s why he was bought. I’d ask why Pochettino isn’t getting the best out of him.

“Could Pochettino learn some lessons in management, man-management, managing a club and coaching, from Jurgen Klopp? It looked to me yesterday [Sunday] like he lacked ideas, Pochettino, he looked like he was unfamiliar with the qualities of the players at his disposal.”

Another disappointing season for Mykhailo Mudryk

At one stage this term, Mudryk started to show real signs of improvement. Goals against London rivals Fulham, Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the Premier League were really promising.

However, since his strike versus the Eagles at the end of December, the Ukraine international has spent a lot of time on the bench.

In fact, the wide man has not actually started a league game since then. Ultimately, like last season, where Mudryk failed to score a single goal for Chelsea, this campaign has been quite a disappointing one.

Some at Stamford Bridge now seem to have some doubts about what he can bring to the team in the present, with journalist Simon Phillips claiming that a loan move for the 2024/25 season has been discussed at the club.
