‘I’m not sure’… Ally McCoist gives honest thoughts on Chelsea potentially signing Joao Felix

Ally McCoist has been discussing Joao Felix’s potential move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea.

Chelsea had been working on a deal for Joao Felix‘s Atletico Madrid teammate Samu Omorodion.

However, with his move to Stamford Bridge now off, Chelsea are speaking to Jorge Mendes about signing Felix instead.

A switch to the Blues would see the attacker return to west London after he spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan there.

McCoist thinks Felix is an individual with a lot of talent, labelling the 24-year-old a “gifted player”.

However, the Rangers legend has doubts as to whether Felix can actually be the answer for Enzo Maresca‘s side.

Speaking on talkSPORT (12/08/2024 at 07:53), McCoist said: “You mentioned there Joao Felix coming back from Atletico Madrid. Gifted player, but I am not sure that’s the answer.”

Joao Felix not the answer for Chelsea

Felix definitely is a technical and skilful forward with a lot of talent. However, he is not a natural No.9, and that is what Chelsea need right now, hence their interest in Omorodion.

The Portugal international is more of a second striker/attacking midfielder, but Maresca already has Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku, who can play behind Nicolas Jackson, for example.

Simply put, it is not quite clear what Chelsea will fix by signing Felix. But there is an opportunity to add him to their squad, and it looks like they are going to take it.

Felix, himself, wants to join Chelsea, so there is a good chance of this one happening. How Maresca is going to fit the former Benfica man, Jackson, Nkunku, Palmer and Pedro Neto all into the same team remains to be seen, though.

That is if Chelsea do go on to sign Felix, of course. A deal has not been finalised yet but, at this rate, it would not be a shock to see Felix in blue again.

If Chelsea sign Felix before the weekend, then he could make his second debut against Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday.
