It is not nice being substituted at half-time, but Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has taken his withdrawal yesterday extremely well.

Levi Colwill did not come out for the second 45 minutes of Chelsea‘s Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United, with Mauricio Pochettino feeling he had to change something with his side trailing 1-0.

But speaking to football.london after the game, the 20-year-old seemed to agree with his manager’s decision, stating that it “worked”.

Colwill has been a key player for Chelsea this season and you would expect that theme to continue.

Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella are both injured right now, meaning that there are no real challengers for his left-back position at the minute.

Colwill feels Pochettino’s decision to swap him for Malo Gusto paid off.

“Yeah, I think so,” the England international said when asked if his manager’s move was a tactical one. “It obviously worked; winning the game on pens and obviously coming back at the same time. I’m really happy for the team.”

Levi Colwill growing at Chelsea

Colwill has shown real maturity at Chelsea since returning from his loan at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Not only has he taken being subbed off at half-time well, but the defender has also captained the Blues, leading them out in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United earlier this month.

It is clear that Pochettino really trusts him and he is proving to be a good example to those in the Chelsea academy hoping to make the step up to the first team one day.

Colwill recently shared that he is getting a lot of help from a couple of his Chelsea team-mates.

Pochettino’s side will find out who they will be playing in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup after tonight’s draw.
