Pundit Micah Richards has now claimed that he can’t believe that he is actually agreeing with what he has just heard from Mauricio Pochettino.

He told ‘The Monday Night Club’ that he agrees that Chelsea still need to add a striker to their ranks despite their lavish spending up to now.

Todd Boehly has facilitated plenty of big moves since he became the owner of the club. They have smashed their transfer record twice already under his watch.

However, going into 2024 goals are still a real issue for the Blues, shown by another loss against Everton at the weekend.

Pochettino elected to hand Armando Broja a rare start up front in place of Nicolas Jackson, with the Senegal international hardly setting the world alight.

After the 2-0 defeat to Everton, the manager came out and said that he still needs more players to get things to work at Stamford Bridge.

Richards agrees with Pochettino

Not everyone has bought this theory, with Alan Shearer particularly baffled by what he had heard.

However, Richards has now claimed that he can actually see where the Argentine is coming from.

“I agree with him. I know it sounds ridiculous. I know they have spent a lot of money already. But you can’t have 71% possession and not win the game. You are getting into good areas and they can’t finish.

“Jackson looked so good in pre-season, I could see what he was trying to do, link-up was good. Sterling looked like he was playing really well. But they have nobody up there with a clinical edge at this moment in time.

“You need a striker who is going to put the ball in the back of the net. The approach play isn’t bad, I can see what Poch is trying to do, at times they have played really well but they don’t come out with the right result.”

A striker is reportedly top of the list right now, with Victor Osimhen always mentioned as the number one priority.
