Jamie Carragher shares one thing that Pedro Neto has over Jadon Sancho

Jamie Carragher briefly compared Chelsea stars Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

Chelsea brought both players to the club over the summer to improve Enzo Maresca‘s options out wide.

The Blues bought Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £54m deal, while Jadon Sancho was signed from Manchester United on loan with an obligation to buy.

Neto replaced Sancho at half-time in Chelsea’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool over the weekend. Leon Osman suggested that Neto was a good substitution on the day.

Pedro Neto quicker than Chelsea teammate Jadon Sancho

Carragher was mostly focusing on Neto and the role he played in Chelsea conceding against Liverpool in the second half.

Before that, though, he suggested that Neto was the faster player out of him and Sancho and that Maresca decided to bring the Portuguese on because of that.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the Liverpool legend said: “At half-time, Neto comes on for Sancho because, for me, I don’t think Sancho has really got the pace really to go at a full-back. Neto’s got it.”

Neto was able to make an impact when he came on. No player created more chances than Neto despite the 24-year-old only being on the pitch for 45 minutes.

Jadon Sancho should remain as Chelsea’s first-choice left winger

While Neto may have more pace than Sancho, going forward, the latter should still be Maresca’s first pick for the left flank.

There would be no harm in starting Neto against Newcastle United on Sunday, with Sancho dropping down to the bench. The Portugal international deserves a start after his impact at Anfield.

However, in the long run, Chelsea will probably be more dangerous if they have a right-footer cutting inside from the left like Sancho, as opposed to a left-footer going on the outside and putting crosses into the box.

The man Sancho should be challenging is Noni Madueke. Though he did initially replace Sancho on the left at Anfield, Maresca sees Neto as a right winger.

It is a good thing, however, that the former Wolves man is proving to be so versatile. He gives Maresca a different option on both flanks.
