Chelsea fans will be coming into the new Premier League season with limited confidence following their pre-season campaign.

The Blues picked up just one win during their travels of the United States, with it clear that there were some teething problems in implementing Enzo Maresca’s way of playing.

Some Chelsea players certainly impressed. Christopher Nkunku came in for praise from his manager after starting every game of the tour.

Off the pitch, there has not been a great deal of confidence in the transfer business done by the club. Supporters are not happy with how Conor Gallagher has been treated, with him set for a move to Atletico Madrid.

Jamie Carragher is one pundit who has not been too impressed with their signings in particular.

Carragher tells Chelsea to stop signing players

He told ‘The Overlap’ that he thinks the people working under owner Todd Boehly are far too obsessed with bringing in as many players as possible.

He said: “The PSR reasons, people keep saying ‘oh we’ve got to sell Conor Gallagher, we’ve got to sell a local player’, just stop buying players! We all do it don’t we, Sky Sports News on and you look at the bottom to see who’s buying who, it’s always Chelsea. £20m for this player, and they’ll buy a goalkeeper and I’ll be thinking ‘you’ve got a goalkeeper’ or it’ll be a striker when they’ve already got three.

“I think those people – we talk about Todd Boehly – there’s people underneath him who I think do the running of the club, scouting players, they’re obsessed with buying players, and they possibly think that if they’re not buying players, what are we doing?

“I do get that feeling with these Chelsea people that it’s constantly like Championship Manager.”

Samu Omorodion set to join Chelsea

It looks as if the Blues are not done with their summer transfer business, with a new striker in the form of Samu Omorodion, who is set to join the club after he finishes playing at the Olympics on Friday.

The deal looks linked in some way to Gallagher’s exit, and some Chelsea supporters have wondered if Omorodion is really what they need at this stage of their project.

Nicolas Jackson is still expected to be the starting striker when the season gets underway, however the future looks more unclear for Marc Guiu now after his impressive campaign in America featuring in his place following the Senegal international’s injury.
