Jamie Redknapp suggests Chelsea could be about to create another issue for Enzo Maresca with their activity in the transfer market.

Chelsea, along with several other clubs, appear to be extremely busy during Friday’s deadline day for the summer transfer window.

The Blues are still linked with lots of incomings and outgoings, but what will the final squad look like for head coach Enzo Maresca once the window is closed?

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently reported via X that Chelsea have submitted an official bid for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, with the proposal of an initial loan deal. In addition, the 24-year-old English winger is believed to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

Jamie Redknapp reacts to Jadon Sancho rumours

Jamie Redknapp has suggested that Chelsea could be making a mistake if they add Sancho to their squad in the next few hours. He’s concerned about the size of the squad that Maresca has to work with.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports News (3:05pm, 30 August): “I heard today that Jadon Sancho has got a mention. Have they not got enough wide men in that area?

“[Noni] Madueke has just got in the squad, you have got [Pedro] Neto, you have got [Mykhailo] Mudryk, the list goes on. Why do you need to bring in another wide man and give yourself another problem for the manager?”

Do Chelsea need Jadon Sancho?

The version of Sancho we’ve seen in Man United colours has been disappointing. However, the skilful attacker has proven during his time at Borussia Dortmund he’s got world-class potential.

We understand Redknapp’s concerns about Chelsea’s interest in Sancho because it’s fair to point out there’s several different options in attack within the first-team squad.

The Blues are fortunate to have the likes of Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Mykhailo Mudryk as out-and-out wingers. On top of that, versatile stars such as Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix sometimes pop up in wide areas.
